San Benito fire chief placed on administrative leave with pay
The fire chief of San Benito has been placed on administrative leave with pay based on allegations made against him, according to a news release from the city of San Benito.
San Benito city manager Manuel De La Rosa confirmed Wednesday that he placed San Bentio Fire Chief Raul Zuniga on administrative leave with pay on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., according to the news release.
De La Rosa stated in the news release that Zuniga will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation involving the allegations.
According to the news release:
Captain Boris Esparza has been named lead captain of the fire department to oversee fire prevention/suppression and employee scheduling matters, while Police Chief Michael Galvan has been assigned law enforcement-related activities such as arson and other potential investigations. City Manager De La Rosa will serve as administrator for all personnel issues within the department.
The San Benito city commission has been informed of the matter.
