San Benito stabbing leaves man in critical condition

What started as a get together with a group of friends, quickly turned violent.

San Benito police said three people allegedly stabbed a man who during a fight began inside the Best Western Inn & Suites off West Business 77.

Investigators told Action 4 News that five people, ages 18 to 21, gathered in Room 111 for a party.

At around 3:35 a.m. Friday, police said a female and male started arguing in the bathroom.

During that time, three other people arrived and heard the female screaming.

According to witnesses at the party, the three believed the girl was being beaten, so they barged into the room and started beating the male.

Investigators said Michael Valdez was sleeping on a bed woke up to find the three beating his friend.

Police said Valdez jumped in to defend his friend.

One of the three man pulled out a knife and stabbed Valdez two times.

Paramedics rushed Valdez to a local hopsital where he's listed in critical condition.

Police arrested 19-year-old Raul Martinez, Jr. and 18-year-old Gerardo Gallardo on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges.

Invesetigators said Martinez is the one belived to have stabbed Valdez.

Martinez received a $750,000 dollar bond while Gallardo was issued a $25,000 dollar bond.

The third suspect, identified as Lazaro Ramos, Jr., remains at large.

Authorities have not determined if any of the other party guest will be brought up on charges.
