San Carlos soldier found dead in his bunk in Washington

Action 4 news has just learned that a Rio Grande Valley soldier stationed in Washington State has been found dead.

Arturo Cantu III was found unresponsive in his bunk at Fort Lewis on Thursday.

The U.S. Army fort is located near Tacoma, Washington.

It's not clear why the San Carlos native died but an autopsy has been ordered.

Sources told Action 4 News the 23-year-old Purple Heart recipient served a tour in Afghanistan before coming back to the United States.

Cantu's body is expected to be transported back to the Valley in about 10 days.

The family is asking for privacy to mourn their loss.
