      'Sand trap' leads police to suspect

      A man remains behind bars following a domestic violence incident on a South Padre Island where his car got stuck in the sand.

      Cameron County Parks police arrested 32-year-old Leonel Silvestre Tolento on Sunday evening.

      Court records show that it all started with a domestic violence incident at Beach Access 6 on Sunday evening.

      Tolento allegedly hit a female family member and was holding his 1-year-old son while hitting another man.

      Park police found Tolento after his car got stuck in the sand of the beach.

      Tolento allegedly struggled with officers trying to arrest him.

      Officers charged Tolento with assault family violence, assault, child endangerment, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and assault of a public servant.

      Tolento remains behind bars at the Cameron County Jail under $34,000 in bonds.
