Santa Muerte shrine destroyed by Mexican authorities
Mexican authorities have reportedly destroyed a shrine to the controversial Santa Muerte just across the border from Del Rio, Texas.
Federal police knocked down a shrine to the skull-faced narco saint early Tuesday morning.
It all happened along a highway that links Ciudad Acua, Coahuila to the Mexican said of Lake Amistad.
Authorities could not be reached for comment but residents reported the shrine TMs destruction on the social media network Twitter.
Residents reported that Mexican soldiers set up a roadblock while federal police destroyed the shrine.
One user named @FreeAcuna with the hackers group Anonymous reported that the shrine was built overnight in 2008.
According to reports, authorities wanted to destroy the shrine back in 2010 but residents who worshipped there were against it.
It TMs not clear why the shrine was destroyed this week.
