Share Your Christmas Yields Big Returns
Fri, 10 Dec 2010 18:37:03 GMT —
The Rio Grande Valley showed their holiday spirit at Action 4 TMs 4th Annual Share Your Christmas event.
On Thursday, Action 4 partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps and the Food Bank of the RGV, hosting drive to collect new/unwrapped toys, non-perishable food items and monetary donations.
Patches, KTEX radio host, donated more than $28,000 dollars thanks to the generous hearts of his fans on KTEX. KTEX fans really did this, said the popular radio DJ. The money was donated through a concert held last weekend.
Donations also came in from Action 4 News viewers, businesses, organizations and schools.
Action 4 News was live at three locations across the Rio Grande Valley.
In Mission, more than 6052 pounds of food was raised in one day at the HEB Plus!.
At the HEB on Paredes Line in Brownsville, the community raised about 932 pounds.
Our Action 4 News studio in Harlingen raised the most, packing in a whopping 6,752 pounds of non-perishable food items.
The total raised in food is still being counted, as food is still being collected from different sites.
A total of $31,065 in monetary donations was raised for the Food Bank RGV alone.
The US Marines did not leave empty handed. The community generous donated thousands of toys including bikes, trains, barbies, & toy cars.
Action 4 could not have done this without it TMs viewers. Because of your kind donations, more than 350,000 families will be fed this holiday season.
We also had big sponsors who backed the event: Much thanks to Luby TMs, Conn TMs, Pena Eye Institute and RGV Ford dealers.
We also would like to thank Bekins Gulf Moving Systems out of San Benito who donated all of the trucks in which the food was collected in.
