Sharyland ISD students who participate in extracurricular activities may soon be subject to random drug testing.
School board members are considering a policy change that would allow random drug testing not for just athletes but anyone representing the school in extracurricular activities.
The item will be discussed at tonight TMs school board meeting.
Superintendent Virginia Richter said the district wants to be proactive went it comes to the issue.
Under the proposed policy, some 350 students per quarter from 7th to 12th grade would be tested.
'It's not something that is written in stone at this point, Superintendent Richter said. We would love to get the community's input, and would love to hear from them."
A public forum will be held this evening at the high school auditorium at 6 pm tonight.
