Sheriff: Beer barn doubled as 8-liner gambling arcade

Authorities are investigating an illegal gambling ring after discovering an illegal 8-liner arcade was being run out of a rural Hidalgo County beer barn.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies were called out to the L & M Drive Thru off Trosper Road just outside Mission on Saturday afternoon.

Investigators told Action 4 News that deputies received a report that illegal immigrants were being held for ransom at the rural drive-thru beer barn.

Deputies did not find any illegal immigrants but discovered that the building was being used as an 8-liner arcade where illegal cash payouts were being made.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the business and reported seized 28 gambling machines, two ledgers and $992 dollars in cash.

Deputies cited patrons inside the arcade for illegal gambling.

No arrests have been made but Sheriff Lupe Trevio reports that the case remains under investigation.
