Sheriff: Body found now ruled as murder

Authorities are now investigating a body found next to the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge as a murder.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevio said the man, who is in his 50 TMs, has been identified as a local resident.

At this time, his name is not being released while deputies work to contact the next of kin.

Trevio said the man died from blunt force trauma to his head.

The discovery was made yesterday morning off Cesar Chavez Road just south of Military Highway.

No other information is being released at this time.
