A Monte Alto is facing criminal charges after faking his kidnapping in order to go party with his friends.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 34-year-old Rogelio Andaverde on Thursday morning.

Andaverde's wife told deputies that armed masked men stormed their FM 2812 home and kidnapped him.

Authorities dispatched patrol units and even a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter to search for Andaverde.

The Monte Alto man returned home mid-Thursday morning.

When interviewed by deputies, Andaverde told investigators that he faked the kidnapping to go party with his friends.

Deputies charged Andaverde with false report to a police officer, a Class B misdemeanor punishable up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Andaverde appeared before a judge at the Hidalgo County Jail where he was issued a $5,000 bond.
