Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevio is spending Monday morning back on the witness stand in the Panama Unit trial.

Sheriff Trevio returned to the stand for Day 5 in the trial of former deputy Jorge Garza.

Garza is accused of working with drug traffickers to steal drug loads from rivals, sell them and split the profits.

Defense attorneys called Sheriff Trevio to the witness stand late Friday morning and spent the afternoon asking him about new allegations raised in testimony by other witnesses.

Among the allegations are that command staff fudged timesheets to allow deputies to campaign Trevio's re-election campaign on county time that they were forced to buy fundraiser tickets.

The sheriff denied the allegations on the witness stand on Friday.

On Monday morning, defense attorneys continued the same line of questioning but started to question Trevio about the Panama Unit.
