Sheriff's Office identifies man found in Rio Grande

Update: The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office has identified the man as 40-year-old David Palacio Garcia.

Investigators are working with Mexican authorities and the Mexican consulate with the ongoing death investigation.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office asked for the public's help Wednesday in identifying a male body recovered from the Rio Grande.

The Sheriff's Office says the man may have been in his mid-30's to mid-40's, is approximately 5'6" in height and has numerous tattoos.

The tattoos appear to read "Sombra", "Tony", "Raymon" and the lettering "VLP".

Border Patrol agents found the body Saturday in the Rio Grande south of Military Highway on 15th Street in Hidalgo, according to a news release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the identity of the deceased male to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 956-383-8114.

The case remains under investigation.
