Shooting at Mexican restaurant leaves one dead

An early morning shooting in Edinburg ended in one man TMs death.

Lt. Oscar Trevino has identified the man as 46-year-old Gilbert Medina Jr.

The shooting happened at around 4am at the Pumpjack Mexican Restaurant on Monte Cristo Road.

According to Edinburg police, the owner was staying on guard overnight at the restaurant due to a string of recent break ins.

That TMs when the intruder broke his way into the restaurant with the owner inside.

Lt. Trevino has confirmed there was a confrontation between the owner and the suspected burglar, where the owner allegedly shot the intruder.

The suspect was shot in the upper torso according to the Justice of the Peace.

Police have the scene blocked off with caution tape as investigators collect any and all evidence.

Edinburg police confirmed three recent break-ins.
