A shooting investigation was underway Monday in Hidalgo County with one person dead.
It happened just before 8:00 a.m. in the 15-thousand block of Mile 19, Near Val Verde Road.
That is just north of La Blanca where another man was also stabbed.
He was being treated as a person of interest.
Action 4 News spoke to one neighbor who was shocked that could happen so close to his home.
"I hear a gun shot in the morning and they were fighting," said Jose.
The neighbor who we are calling "Jose" lives across the street from the crime scene.
He agreed to talk only if his identity was protected, fearing for his safety.
"When I woke up, cops, helicopter. He was our neighbor and everything but we wouldn't talk very much. We would just say 'what's up," said Jose.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Office investigators spent all day Monday behind a graffiti covered fence where a mobile home is located on a lot, about the size of 2 acres.
Investigators only confirmed a Hispanic man was fatally shot on the property with a semi-automatic handgun recovered from the scene.
"I saw him in the ambulance with a cut on his face and neck," said Jose.
Authorities said a woman who lives in the mobile home where the man was found dead, was taken to the Sheriff's office for questioning Monday morning.
Her identity was still unknown Monday night.
Investigators said both men and the woman all knew each other but could not confirm their relationships.
The woman told investigators she was not home at the time of the shooting.
"For me its weird that this happened because they would never have problems, real calm," the woman said.
By Monday night, it was not clear what lead to the shooting.
Investigators said they were not leaning towards a burglary.
They expected the investigation to go well into the night.
