Shoplifter claims he was hit by cop car, flees hospital
A Harlingen couple lead police on a foot chase after allegedly stealing from HEB.
The man and woman ran from the store on the 600 block of South Expressway 83, when they saw police headed their way.
Officers caught up to them near "P" street and they were arrested. The male suspect asked for medical attention, claiming he'd been struck by a police unit during the chase.
As he was being examined at Valley Baptist Medical Center he ran off again in an attempt to flee from police.
However, the suspect was located by Harlingen police once again.
Both suspects are being charged with theft and evading arrest.
The names of the two suspects involved have not yet been released, but they are booked at the Harlingen city jail.
The stolen items were returned back to the store.
