Authorities report that Rolando Cantu Alvarado didn TMt get to spend the money he stole.
Elsa police arrested the 30-year-old man on multiple criminal charges on Monday.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Alvarado is accused of breaking into machines a coin-operated car wash off Highway 107.
Elsa Police Chief Primitivo Rodriguez said Alvarado made off with quarters but was caught quickly afterwards.
Officers charged Alvarado with seven counts of burglary of a coin-operated machine, one for each machine he damaged.
Chief Rodriguez said the damage Alvarado caused far exceeded the amount of money he stole.
Court records show that Alvarado had two previous arrests for criminal trespass.
Alvarado remains in custody at the Hidalgo County Jail under $14,000 in bonds.
