Should taxpayers fund things like 'Penis Pumps?'

Findings show that millions of Medicare dollars are spent for the devices known as 'penis pumps.'

According to the Office of the Inspector General, the amount spent on the vacuum erection systems (VES) "remain grossly excessive compared with the amounts that non-Medicare payers pay."

CBS News reports the VES cost the U.S. Medicare program $172 million over the course of five years.

The Department of Health and Human Services is recommending if payments are in fact too excessive, a payment limit could possibly be used.

CBS News adds that the Mayo Clinic says the penis pumps are one of few treatment options for the health condition known as erectile dysfunction.

In just five years, the yearly claims for the VES jumped by about 18 million, CBS reports.
