Smoking marijuana in front of child lands two behind bars

Two men are facing criminal charges after they allegedly smoked marijuana in front of a 12-year-old boy.

Harlingen police arrested 19-year-old Jason Abrego and 19-year-old Juan Limas, Jr. over the weekend.

Investigators told Action 4 News that an officer was called to the 1900 block of Loop 499 for an intoxicated driver on Friday night.

An officer pulled over the car and learned that Abrego had been smoking marijuana while driving.

Abrego allegedly gave the marijuana cigarette to Limas, who was a backseat passenger and placed it inside a soda can.

The two were allegedly smoking the marijuana cigarette in front of a 12-year-old boy, who was also a passenger in the car.

Officers charged both Abrego and Limas with child endangerment but Limas got an additional charge of tampering with evidence.

A Harlingen Municipal Court judge issued a $5,000 bond for Abrego and $10,000 in bonds for Limas.
