Border Patrol: Smuggler abandons 800 pounds of marijuana and swims back to Mexico
With Border Patrol agents approaching, a smuggler crashed a truck — loaded with more than 800 pounds of marijuana — into the Rio Grande and swam back to Mexico on Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning, the smuggler started driving a truck loaded with marijuana through a Brownsville golf course, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
When Border Patrol agents arrived, the smuggler turned around and headed south. The driver reached the Rio Grande and didn't stop, crashing the truck into the river and swimming back to Mexico.
Agents recovered 37 bundles of marijuana, which weighed more than 800 pounds, according to the news release.
