Social media continues to play a larger and larger role in political campaigns right here in the Rio Grande Valley.
Both Facebook and Twitter took the center stage on Tuesday's the Democratic and Republican Party primaries.
Nowhere was that more apparent than the democratic party primary race for Hidalgo County District Attorney.
Both incumbent Rene Guerra and challenger Ricardo Rodriguez faced off in debates but also on-line.
Their social media numbers mirrored the final outcome of the race where Rodriguez won with third-thirds of the vote.
Guerra with only 63 followers on Twitter while Rodriguez had 377 followers.
On Facebook, Guerra had more than 4,000 fans but rodriguez had close to 8,000.
Rodriguez posted an Election Night victory photo to Facebook getting more than 1,200 likes and 80 shares.
With 12 runoff races for Cameron and Hidalgo Counties, Action 4 News will continue to keep an eye on the campaigns through social media.
