Son of Hidalgo County judge charged for stealing knives

The son of Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia has been arrested and charged in a shoplifting case where he and another man stole knives and returned to the scene of the crime.

Edinburg police arrested both Ramon Garcia, Jr. and Ernesto Jacobo Ledesma for Class B misdemeanor theft.

The two men were allegedly caught on tape stealing $463 worth of knives from Johnny's True Value hardware store off East Cano Road.

Officers were called to the store just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The store owner called police after reviewing surveillance video where he saw Garcia and Ledesma stealing the knives.

But the owner reported that the men came back inside the store prompting him to lock the door until police arrived.

Police officers allegeldy found the stolen knives inside Ramon's vehicle.

Both Garcia and Ledesma spent the night in jail until their Wednesday afternoon arraignments.
