South Padre Island drowning victim identified as PSJA North student

Authorities have identified a teenager who drowned on South Padre Island as a PSJA North High School student.

South Padre Island police confirmed that 18-year-old Jesus Eduardo Moreno died in the Sunday morning accident.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Moreno and two others were having trouble in the waters in the Gulf of Mexico.

The three swimmers were rescued on the 5500 block of Gulf Boulevard and rushed to the Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.

Two of the swimmers survived but Moreno was pronounced dead.

PSJA Independent School District officials confirmed that Moreno was a junior at PSJA North High School.

School district officials have made counselors available to both students and staff.

Moreno worked weekends at a McDonalds restaurant off East Trenton Road and U.S. Highway 281 in Edinburg.

Co-workers said he was a cheerful and hard worker adding that both he and his sister worked there to help their mother and family.

Moreno's co-workers are working on a fundraiser.
