Thousands are without power early Saturday morning following a powerful thunderstorm that moved through the Laguna Madre area.

A storm with winds up to 50 mph per hour blew through eastern Cameron County around 11 p.m. Friday.

The storm knocked out power to homes and businesses in Laguna Heights, Port Isabel and South Padre Island

Action 4 News viewers posted pictures of the power failure on the social media networks Twitter and Instagram.

Crews are working to restore power but there are no estimates on when the repairs will be completed.
