A DWI wreck in the Southmost area of Brownsville ended with two arrests

A DWI accident that sent a woman to a hospital in Brownsville ended with not one, but rather two arrests.

Brownsville police arrested 42-year-old Alfonso Garza and his 29-year-old passenger Alejandro Tovar early Wednesday morning

Investigators told Action 4 News that Garza was behind the wheel of a car involved in an accident on the 3200 block of Southmost Road.

Paramedics took a woman in the other car to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville due to stomach pains.

Garza fled the scene but police found him on the 2900 block of Tulipan Street.

Investigators said Tovar appeared intoxicated and stayed at the scene of the accident where police found cocaine inside Garza's car.

Officers charged both Garza with intoxication assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Police charged Tovar with public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance.

Both men remained in the Brownsville City Jail as of Wednesday morning.
