Volunteers from around the Valley were on hand at the first annual StrandFest Beach Clean-Up.
The event attracted over 400 volunteers who cleared Beach Access 5 and 6 of trash and debris.
More than 1,500 bags of trash were collected.
Those who helped were awarded with free tickets to Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark for the remainder of the day.
Action 4 News spoke with Javier Mendez, Cameron County Parks and Recreations Director, and he said, We saw the problem and wanted to help out. We appreciate it. Due to the high turnout and success of the beach clean-up, Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark will sponsor similar events in the future.
