Starr County drug chase ends near Edinburg

Authorities are looking for a man who lead police on a chase from Starr County to an orchard north of Alton.

Investigators told Action 4 News that it all started off FM 490 in Starr County around 8:40 a.m. Friday.

A suspect led authorities on a chase a series of country roads and crossed into Hidalgo County.

The chase ended near the intersection of Bryan Road and Monte Cristo Road, which is located north of Alton and west of Edinburg.

The driver ditched the car and fled into an orange grove.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers and Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies are at the scene searching for the suspect.

An intense manhunt that even involved a helicopter took place but authorities were not able to find the suspect.

Investigators told Action 4 News that they discovered the driver had left 800 pounds of marijuana in his car.

Public records show the car was registered to a family off West San Diego Street in Rio Grande City.
