Starr County teen killed after being run over by her own car

A Starr County teenager is dead following a bizarre accident where she may have been run over by her own car.

Rio Grande City police said it all happened at a home off 3649 Mockingbird Drive at 7:59 a.m. Tuesday .

Investigators told Action 4 News that preliminary information suggests that the 17-year-old did not place her vehicle in park.

Police believe that the teenage girl exited the car she was driving and was somehow run over by it.

Officers found the girl under the vehicle.

Paramedics rushed the girl the Starr County Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The identity of the 17-year-old girl has not been released while the accident remains under investigation.

A family member told police that the girl was on her way to summer school at the time of the accident.
