State trooper arrests 30-year-old Mission man after high-speed chase
A state trooper arrested a 30-year-old man Saturday after a high-speed chase near La Joya.
While driving west on Military Road, the state trooper watched several people emerge from the brush near Perales-Martinez street, according to the criminal complaint. The people jumped in a green Chevrolet SUV, which sped away — ignoring several stop lights.
The SUV caused a three-car crash, according to the criminal complaint. After the wreck, the driver attempted to run away.
The trooper managed to catch Joel Sanchez Jr., 30, of Mission and arrest him.
Three people, including two motorists and one person who wasn't legally present in the United States, suffered injuries as a result of the crash, according to the criminal complaint.
Sanchez is charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle with a previous conviction, a third-degree felony; smuggling of persons, a state jail felony; and evading arrest and detention with a previous conviction, a state jail felony.
Court records don't list an attorney for Sanchez, who remains at the Hidalgo County jail and couldn't be reached for comment.
