A state trooper has been suspended with pay after being charged with driving while intoxicated in Edinburg.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state trooper Raul Cerda, Jr. surrended to Edinburg police on Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Cerda was involved in a single-vehicle accident around 2:17 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4th.
Edinburg police said the accident took place on the frontage road of U.S. Highway 281 and Trenton Road.
Although details were not immediatebly available, investigators believe Cerda was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Accompanied by his attorney, Cerda surrendered to Edinburg police on Tuesday afternoon where he was arraigned and issued a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
Local DPS spokesman Johnny Hernandez told Action 4 News that Cerda has been suspended with pay pending an internal investigation.
