      Sticky fingers in purse lands Harlingen man behind bars

      A 21-year-old was jailed after being accused of taking money from a purse that did not belong to him.

      Fortunato Cardenas III was arrested on a charge of theft in connection to taking $705.

      The alleged crime happened on August 3rd around 1:55 in the morning.

      Police responded to the 100 block of East Harrison in Harlingen where they spoke with the victim of the crime.

      Police said she told authorities she saw a man taking personal items from her purse without her effective consent.

      The 21-year-old Harlingen man was arrested and charged.

      His bond was set at $2,000 for the Class B Misdemeanor charge.

      The stolen money was returned to the victim of the crime, Harlingen police said.
