Stolen beer ends up costing man $1,116 dollars in fines

A stolen 24-ounce can of beer ended up costing a Harlingen man more than $1,100 dollars in fines.

Harlingen police arrested 22-year-old Jose Ceballos III on Class C misdemanor theft charges late Tuesday night.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Ceballos tried to steal beer from the HEB supermarket off Morgan Boulevard but was not successful.

Witnesses allegedly saw Ceballos get into a white car, which fled the scene.

Police officers spotted the car at a Stripes convenience store down the street where they learned Ceballos had gone inside and a stole a 24-ounce can of beer.

Ceballos appeared before a Harlingen Municipal Court judge on Wednesday morning where he was fined $1,116 dollars for the stolen beer and outstanding tickets.

Records show that Ceballos has enrolled in a payment plan to pay off the fines.
