Stripes helps enrich students with using fresh foods

Stripes is helping students get a hands-on experience to better understand where food comes from.

Thursday we had Jerry Gonzalez on Sunrise to explain.

He said the convenience stores announced a new program for elementary school students to learn about fresh vegetables through the Stripes Fresh Learning Garden seeded by Laredo Taco Company grant.

It will give students in neighboring schools a hands-on experience to understand where food comes from and learn the value of using fresh foods.

Stores will accept applications to award $200 grants public elementary schools throughout the Stripes market areas to plant the seeds that will be the ingredients for tomorrow's Pico de Gallo.

Grant applications will be accepted until April 20, 2014, at 5 p.m. CST.

Teachers interested in applying should visit

A limit of one grant may be awarded per teacher per school.
