Students rushed to hospital after DWI suspect rear-ends school bus

Two students have been taken to a hospital after an alleged drunk driver rear-ended an Edinburg school bus.
The crash happened around 5:00 p.m. Thursday on north Alamo Road and Monte Cristo near Economedes High School.
Texas Department of Public Safety said the driver of a white Dodge pickup truck slammed into the back of the bus with 28 students inside.
DPS said the bus was stopped at a red light right before the crash.
Gilbert Tagle, PIO for Edinburg CISD, told Action 4 News that the truck hit school bus 137 with Harwell Middle School and Economedes High School students inside.
Paramedics rushed two students to Edinburg Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
Tagle said the rest of the students are being checked for injuries, and parents are also being notified of the accident.
Authorities have not released the name of the male driver at this time, but the 52-year-old has been arrested for driving while intoxicated.
He is currently behind bars at the Hidalgo County Jail.
