Substation malfunction blamed in Starr County power outage

Starr County residents started the work week with a major power outage.
According to AEP Texas's website about 8,250 homes and businesses were without electricity early Monday monring.
AEP Texas officials said they deteced problem in power substation.
According to officials, a protective device opened up, but crews didn TMt find any issues with substation so they just reset it.
Customers were out of power for about two hours but full power has been restored.
Rio Grande City Mayor Ruben Villareal said the lights went out from 7:30 a.m. to about 9:00 a.m. Monday.
Mayor Villarreal said the high school was about to let all students out of school but power came back on.
Some elementary kids were let out but school will continue as normal.
