Omar Gonzalez // Cameron County Jail Mugshot

A Harlingen man is spending Christmas behind bars after stabbing a homeowner during an early Sunday morning argument.

Harlingen police arrested 26-year-old Omar Gonzalez on an aggravated assault charge early Sunday morning.

Witnesses told Action 4 News that Gonzalez came to a house on the 400 block of North D Street looking for drugs.

Investigators reported Gonzalez got into an argument with the homeowner and then started a fight with his girlfriend and hit her.

The homeowner intervened but Gonzalez allegedly responded by stabbing him several times.

Paramedics rushed the stabbing victim to the Valley Baptist Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

Officers found Gonzalez a few blocks away.

Gonzalez appeared before Harlingen Municipal Court Judge Michael Zanca on Christmas Eve where he was issued a $50,000 dollar bond.
