Authorities evacuated an Edinburg courtroom and a county building after discovering a suspicious package.
It all happened at the 430th State District Court South 9th Avenue and West University Drive shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevio said a suspicious envelope arrived with the court's mail.
Officials evacuated both the courtroom and an adjacent county building as a precaution.
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies, Edinburg police and firefighters are at the scene.
A hazmat crew is testing a sample taken from the envevelope but are waiting for results to see if it is harmful.
Sheriff Trevio said he expects the scene to be cleared by Tuesday evening.
