Teen dead after drowning at South Padre Island

A teen has drowned while SPI has rough waters

A teenager has been pronounced dead after a group he was with were drowning at Inverness at South Padre Island.

The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. when authorities responded to a call about four people drowning in the water near the 5600 block of Gulf Boulevard at Inverness at South Padre Island.

Authorities said that all four were taken out of the water, and three of the individuals were rushed to a local hospital.

According to South Padre Island spokesperson Naida Robles, an 18-year-old male was pronounced dead after the incident.

His identity and relationship to the group is not known at this time.

The condition of the three people involved in the drowning is not known at this time.

Witnesses told Action 4 News that there are rough waters and rip tides at South Padre Island.
