Teen says Facebook acquaintance hired her to smuggle drugs

U.S. Customs and Border Protection: Smuggled drugs

An 18-year-old was taken into custody at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge after she was caught with cocaine and methamphetamine.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers found 20 pounds of cocaine and nearly 5 pounds of meth hidden inside a Dodge Neon driven by Melissa Arenas.

The teen, a Mexican citizen, told investigators she was hired to transport the drugs through a man she met on Facebook.

Arenas said a Facebook acquaintance named Pipo introduced her to a man named Gute who was looking for people to smuggle cocaine into the United States.

Arenas said she had successfully transported drugs five times prior to her arrest on Wednesday.

She said Gute paid her $1,000 each time she smuggled the drugs into the country.

Arenas was released to Homeland Security Investigators for further investigation.
