A teenager mother is behind bars after she allegedly left her 10-year-old brother in charge of taking care of her two baby girls.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested Dana Rangel late Saturday night.

The 18-year-old is facing three counts of child abandonment.

Court records obtained by Action 4 News show that deputies were called out to a home off Encantada Loop in El Ranchito after 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Deputies reported finding a 10-year-old boy and another juvenile outside the home.

The boy told deputies that his sister, who was later identified as Rangel, left him to go pick up a family member around 8 p.m. but had not returned.

Court records show that the boy called Rangel and told her that it was getting dark and he was scared but she replied that she was at a friend's house.

A deputy went inside the home and found a 4-month-old girl and 1-year-old girl crying inside the dark.

Court records show that both baby girls had soiled themselves and that their 10-year-old uncle was scared and did not know what to do with them.

Rangel remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $7,500 dollars in bonds.
