Texas jail roof falls, 10 sent to hospitals
The roof of a privately run East Texas jail has collapsed, temporarily trapping dozens of inmates and sending 10 inmates to nearby hospitals.
The midday Saturday incident happened at the Diboll Correctional Center in Diboll, about 10 miles south of Lufkin and 105 miles northeast of Houston.
Texas prison system spokesman Jason Clark says ceiling wallboard fell from the ceiling of a housing area.
Warden David Driskell says 84 inmates were in the area and many were trapped briefly. Aside from the inmates sent to hospitals, he said others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Driskell said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.Jail officials were trying to determine what caused the collapse.
The 518-bed minimum-security prison is operated by Centerville, Utah-based Management & Training Corp.
