State District Judge Ricardo Rodriguez announced he will be running against the long standing incumbent Rene Guerra.
Guerra has held his office for more than 20 years.
Rodriguez spent nearly seven years as the judge in the 92nd District Court.
He said Hidalgo County residents are ready for a change.
"Things that have happened in these past few months and everybody is asking themselves where is the District Attorney at? Why isn't he being aggressive or why is he aggressive with other cases and not others?" Rodriguez said.
Primary elections will be March 4th.
