The U.S. Consulate General is sending out a reminder to U.S. citizens of the recent kidnapping threat in Tamaulipas.

The consulate warns of kidnapping and other criminal activities in the northern areas of the state along the border.

They suggest that people travel during daylight hours only and not to display any evidence of wealth.

U.S. citizens should follow the U.S. Department of State TMs Travel Warning for Mexico.

Contact Mexican law enforcement if you fear a U.S. citizen family member has been kidnapped.

It is suggested that U.S. citizens traveling to Mexico enroll in the Department of State TMs Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
