Three dead after city dump truck collides with pickup

Wreckers lift dump truck

A deadly crash involving a pick-up and a city of Harlingen dump truck has claimed the lives of three people.

Two men and a teenage boy are among those dead after the pick-up truck they were in collided with a Harlingen dump truck.

The accident happened off FM 509 and Haynes Drive just after 2:30 p.m.

The road remained closed for hours while they cleared the debris from the road.

Harlingen police confirm six people were aboard the red pick-up truck when the collision happened.

Investigators believe the driver of the red pick-up was making a left turn onto Haynes Drive.

They believe the driver had a green light, but not the green protected arrow.

A city of Harlingen dump truck traveling the opposite direction also had the green light, but was not able to stop in time, according to authorities.

Investigators found one of the bodies among the debris.

The other three passengers of the pick-up and the driver of the dump truck were all transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Large wreckers had to be brought in to lift the dump truck off its side.

Harlingen police are asking people to drive carefully amid wet conditions on New Year's Eve.
