Three killed in head-on collision

Three Rio Grande Valley men are dead and two others are injured following a major accident just east of Bishop.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirms the accident happened between a car and a pickup truck on FM 70 near County Road 73-A just around 7:15 a.m. Friday.

The entire roadway remained shut down through early Friday afternoon.

State troopers said they are spending the afternoon sifting through debris and tire tracks to figure out what happened.

But invesigators confirmed that a man driving the car and two out of four men aboard the truck died at the scene.

Two of the men in the truck were airlifted to a hospital in Corpus Christii where they were last listed in stable condition.

DPS confirms all of the men involved in the accident are from the Rio Grande Valley.

State troopers told Action 4 News that the people involved in the accident were from Weslaco, Pharr and Mercedes.

Investigators said the driver of the car was from Weslaco while the occupants of the truck are from a city in the Rio Grande Valley.

Authorties identified those killed in the accident as:

Efrain Gomez Jr, 26, Pharr Jose Luis Hernandez, 60, Weslaco Santiago Granados Jr, 42, Mercedes
