Toddler shifts car into drive crashing it into home, mom arrested

A trip to a car wash ended with a young mother going to jail after one of her children caused an accident with her car.

The young mother turned her back for one second, but in the blink of any eye one of her children crashed her car into a mobile home.

Rio Hondo police arrested 23-year-old Andrea Silva on two counts of child endangerment.

Investigators said she went to get her car washed, but left the engine running with her 2-year-old daughter and 11-month-old son inside.

Authorities said the 2-year-old climbed into the front seat, and put the car in drive.

It caused the car to be sent into a pole, through a fence and into a nearby mobile home. .

No injuries were reported, and the children were checked out by paramedics.

Authorities are still totaling the damage at this time.

Silva was taken into custody, and police say the incident is a criminal act of child endangerment.
