Trial begins for former deputy accused in Panama Unit scandal

The jury has been sworn in an testimony is ready to start in the trial of the final suspect in the Panama Unit corruption scandal.
Jorge Garza appeared for jury trial before U.S. District Court Judge Randy Crane in McAllen.
The former Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputy is accused of working with drug traffickers to secure drug loads, sell them and split the profits.
Federal prosecutor James Sturgis started opening arguments in the case at 10:17 a.m. Tuesday.
