The 24/7 Weather Center is tracking an area of showers and thunderstorms along the coast of Mexico, south of the Rio Grande Valley.
According to the National Hurricane Center, this system could develop into something stronger over the next couple of days.
Development would depend on the system staying offshore, in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
As of Monday morning, the system had a medium chance of turning into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours.
Heavy rain is possible along the coast of Tamaulipas and Veracruz through mid week, with slight chances for rain in the Valley.
