TSTC Harlingen helping out sister campus in Waco

Students working in Waco

The deadly explosion in West, Texas, hit home for Texas State Technical College.

A leadership group from their Harlingen location was in Waco at the time of the explosion.

They're safe, but their colleagues with homes in west are looking for shelter tonight. More than 50 TSTC Waco employees live in West.

Of those at least 9 are now homeless because of the explosion..

TSTC Waco is located just eight minutes away from West.

The campus was not damaged, so it's now being used as a staging area for emergency response crews.

TSTC Harlingen President Dr. Cesar Maldonado told Action 4 News some of his Harlingen staff were in Waco on business at the college and they were not affected by the explosion.

TSTC Waco also owns and operates the airport and are coordinating special flights in and out of the area for recovery and rescue crews.

A hotline is open to the public on how you can help them with donations.

The number is 254- 867- 2630.

Action 4 News will be joining the "TSTC Cares Relief" drive on Friday.

Action 4 News encourages you to come out to TSTC TMs Service Center in Harlingen and the Action 4 News station in Pharr to help all of the victims of the West explosion.
