Two arrested in Harlingen prostitution sting

A sting operation targeting prostitution in and around Harlingen's "La Plazita" district ended with two arrests.

Harlingen police told Action 4 News that the undercover operation took place around Gutierrez Park on Tuesday night.

Investigators said Ramiro Garcia allegedly offered oral sex to an undercover officer for $20 dollars.

Police arrested Yolanda Rodriguez Pea after she allegedly offered sex to an undercover officer for $30 dollars.

Both Garcia and Pea appeared before Harlingen Municipal Court Judge Travis Bence on Wenesday morning where they each received $500 dollar bonds.

As of Tuesday morning, Garcia remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail while Pea was still at the Harlingen City Jail.

Gutierrez Park is locatied in downtown Halringen and known to area residents as "La Plazita" because of its square-shape forming a plaza.

The park has a reputation as being a gathering place for prostitutes, drug addicts and the homeless.
