A woman is dead after she allegedly lost control of her car and caused a two-car accident just west of Rio Grande City.

The fatal wreck happened off U.S. Highway 83 just west of city limits at 4:06 p.m. Friday.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers are investigating the fatal accident.

State troopers said 41-year-old Idolina Guerra Gonzalez was headed east in a Ford Fusion when her car veered into the westbound lanes.

Investigators said Gonzalez's car hit a Chevrolet pickup truck.

Paramedics rushed the 41-year-old woman to the McAllen Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the Starr County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries but was later released.

It's not clear why Gonzalez's car veered into oncoming traffic but the case remains under investigation.
